Borat Sagdiyev is back and as raw and risky as before. Although I have to admit, I never saw the original. In this case I can say, if the original is anywhere on par with the sequel, I will watch it very soon.
For those who don’t know, Borat is supposed to be from Kazakhstan and in this film he begins trying to make amends to his homeland. He is released from prison where he spent the last 14 years for embarrassing his country with his documentary targeting a meeting with Pamela Anderson. Borat’s past antics are said to be responsible for Kazakhstan’s economic fall. This time around he is told if he meets with the United States Vice President, Mike Pence and brings along Kazakhstan’s Minister of Culture, who is a monkey, then all will be forgiven and he can return to his native country a hero. Unfortunately, the monkey will not be around to land foot in Texas when he lands. However, Tutar (Maria Bakalova) Borat’s daughter is in the cage instead. Although women don’t have many rights in Borat’s Kazakhstan, Tutar soon finds woman’s lib in Texas. This turns in handy as she has been given a book of outrageous lies from her father about her private parts being able bite off her hand if she ventures her fingers inside. Tutar, Borat’s daughter is played brilliantly by Bakalova and as we follow her journey into womanhood Borat realizes that she may be the biggest and best gift he could give on behalf of his country to Mike Pence. The trouble they get in, I won’t even try to describe, however there is one encounter with Rudy Giuliani which is hilarious. Giuliani puts himself in a bedroom after an interview with Tutar during which she flirts with him. Giuliani is laying on his back on the bed with his shirt out of his pants as Borat bursts in letting him know she is only 15 years old. Great comedic moments and story points also follow the climax of this film. It is also interesting to see what happens in story twists and turns with Borat after the Pence encounter.
Borat Subsequent Moviefilm has more depth than his one piece speedo.
