Dune, director Denis Villeneuve’s big budget sci-fi adaptation of Frank Herbert's original novel of the same name will cover the first half of the novel according to sources close to the production. It was initially re-scheduled to be released on December 18, 2020 but postponed again due to Covid-19.

Finally released in theaters and premiered at The Venice Film Festival on October 22, 2021 it has mostly received good reviews.

A second film covering more of the novel has not yet been guaranteed but Villeneuve is hopeful as is the main cast - Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Josh Brolin and Stellan Skarsgård who have made their intentions known that they would be ready to reprise their roles.
